Although most people may consider birds harmless creatures, they too can cause havoc in your life if left unattended. This is especially true if there is a swarm of birds that constantly perches on your roof. Not only could their droppings wreak havoc to the structure of the roof but their droppings could also spread diseases and bacteria that could finally make their way into your home. There are several methods you could employ to ensure that you get rid of pesky birds that have taken perch at the top of your house.

The first method would be trying to disrupt the pattern that they have formed for themselves. One of the ways that you could disrupt the pattern the birds have would be by using devices that emit ultrasonic sound. These are sound waves that are typically of a high frequency so they are not audible to the human ear. However, the sound is quite loud to the birds and thus prevents them from taking roost anywhere that is within earshot to the ultrasonic sound. Another method of disrupting their pattern would be to put up spikes on your roof. In addition to this, you could incorporate wires and even beams that will hinder the birds from roosting on your roof. These additions make the roof uneven and thus the birds will not have a stable place to roost.

The second method you could use to get rid of birds from your roof would be the use of visual scares. Visual scare tactics have been used since time immemorial. The scarecrow is one of the earliest forms of these and it was used to keep birds away from farms. In recent years, there have been numerous visual scares that have been developed to ensure that the birds stay away from roofs. One of these is a balloon with holographic eyes that gives the birds the impression that they are being followed.

The third method one could use to get rid of birds from their roof would be repellants. These are chemically laced with an ingredient that repels the taste buds of the birds. Thus when they come to perch on the roof and start looking for food, they taste the repellant and are repulsed by it. Most of these repellants are harmless. One would have to ensure that they purchase one that is approved by the FDA so as to ensure you are not putting your health at risk too.
